Expert information about healthy black hair care, stylists, techniques, products, etc., is really a rare find today. I receive anywhere from between 50 to as many as 300 e-mails during a calendar week concerning hair isssues that women have. These request and demands for hair help have increased as the number of household ineternet users increases with history. In the age of information, and quickly paced at that, may women I have found are seeking hair maintenance products and solutions that can fix their hair needs quickly. What we need in the black hair care industry is more integrity and "rubber meets the road" perspective about the epidemic trend of unhealthy hair practices.
Lord knows, I was never real big on hair salons growing up, and my mother had a lot to do with that because, she certainly didn't visit them, herself. Momma either did her own "kitchen beautician" thing or kept her hair in a weave style, do avoid dealing with it. I had to always heare her tell me things like, "I don't have your kind of hair Tracey, you got your hair from your daddy!" I don't know how to handle my "nappy" hair, so I just buy me some, and put it up there!" When I would ask her about visiting hair salons to make her hair life easier, she just told me she was traumatized, at the hair salon and that's ALL!
Sisters, how many of us have either felt this way ourselves, or know other black women who have dreamed of "donning" their own hair in as healthy a manner as can be. Have you been hiding your tresses God gave you, under a scarf, hat, or weave like my Momma, most of your life?
I, Da'HairDoc, believe that you shouldn't have to be ashamed and scared of your hair, no matter what its texture, type or tone. You have growing, if it is in fact still growing at this moment, and you haven't yet suffered permanent hair loss due to hair salon "chemical and/or too tight braiding accidents" at the hands of unprofessional, untrained "shampoo/relaxer" girls that work illegally at many black hair salons!
I believe that armed with the proper information and honest opportunities to be "taught" through "sound" hair education & professionally licensed cosmetologist-provided consultations, the realistic hair care, growth, product and styling options that would correspond with our particular hair conditions & needs, we as a culture of multi-ethnic textured women, could enjoy the "Crowning Glory" our Creator, God the Father, decorated woman with!
If what I have gained through personal trial & error, hair study & research, not to mention professional salon-cliincal experience, with women of all hair textures and types, from many nations, worldwide...can be of help to more women...I have truly made a "restorative" mark, with God's blessing to Black Hair Culture, today!
